July 11, 2022

A WORD FROM OUR CHAMPIONS

We’re edging closer to the end of our premiere year in the world of dart blaster team competition, and we’ve loved every moment so far. As we prepare to crown a champion team at the Dart Zone Pro Tournament in Rochester, New York, we want to take a moment and get to know the competitors who’ve made us proud. To that end, we’ve singled out the burning questions our community wants to know. Read on for answers from the Pro Tournament finalists.

BEEF SQUAD
Answers from Maddox Corcorcan

Q: How many years have you been playing this sport?

MC: I’ve played in Dart Wars ever since middle school, but have participated in more competitive events for the past 7 years.

Q: How many years have you been with your team?

MC: We’ve been a Pro Team the past 3 years but have played together casually and in HvZ since 2016.

Q: How often do you practice?

MC: We are split across the state of Florida, but we gather at least once a month to practice, strategize, and grow closer as a team.

Q: What excites you about the Blaster League?

MC: I’m so excited to have a staple company like Dart Zone supporting the blaster community in a sport we’ve enjoyed for decades. The nationwide qualifiers, sizable prize pool, and support already shown for the teams competing are so encouraging and show Dart Zone is taking the steps to build competition, teams, and fans to enjoy the sport for years to come.

Q: Where do you see this sport going in the future?

MC: I see further expansion of the sport, with more qualifiers across the country to bring in more teams. I also expect to see the emergence of more sponsors to support the teams and athletes, and ultimately bring more eyes and fans to the sport.

Q: If there was one thing you could communicate to skeptics about this emerging sport, what would it be?

MC: I would argue that this is not an emerging sport. This is a sport that has existed since people were playing dart tag in their living rooms. But beyond that, there are communities all over the country that have played the sport for decades. Now, we have the organization, national stage, and corporate support to bring this to the next level.

Q: What do you hope to do with the prize money if you win?

MC: This sport is something Beef Squad is committed to and has been for a while now. Our winnings will go back towards getting the gear we need to succeed and travel for future competitions. And a celebratory feast!

Q: Please highlight any personal stories (ex. Your personal/team road to get to the final) below.

MC: After falling just short of a podium in the 2019 Pro Tournament, Beef Squad was back, and we were ready to prove ourselves. In our qualifier, we were quickly humbled when we lost a match to Combo #5 in the 2nd round which dropped us to the Losers Bracket. From there, we reorganized, rallied, and battled our way back. We won 3 matches in a row, including beating Frumble in the Losers Bracket Finals. This put us into the Finals against, you guessed it, Combo #5. We learned from last time and won the match to get us to Grand Finals, where we won again to take home first place in the qualifier! Beef Squad does not back down from a challenge, and we showed our resilience in this qualifier. We’re here to play.

SEE YOU SOON!
